The FMS Waste Management unit is responsible for managing the solid waste stream at the University Park Campus, Health Sciences Campus, and North University Park Campus. We ensure that the university's waste is taken to appropriate facilities for proper sorting and recycling.
Since 1994, FMS Waste Management has diverted at least fifty percent of the university's waste from landfills. Having continuously increased over the years, our current diversion rate is 52.41%. On campus, waste is source sorted into different categories such as green waste, food waste, contractor's waste, and rubbish. Rubbish and waste are taken to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for further sorting and delivery to recycling companies.
Additionally, we have a baler at the FMS recycling yard where we bale around 200 tons of cardboard and 500 tons of white paper, mixed paper, and newspaper every year.
